TV Stands for Flat Screens – Which one’s right for you?

So you’ve just bought that brand new LCD HDMI ready TV and you can’t wait to get that beauty hooked up and running right? But wait! You’ve forgotten something, you can feel it; but what is it? You look around your living room, and stare at the empty space where you’re planning to put your new TV, and it dawns on you. Of course! What’s missing is that LCD TV stand you’ve forgotten to buy with the TV! Now that you realize what’s wrong, you rush down to your computer to have a look at the vast array of TV stands, and you realize there is A LOT. Where to begin? Well, this article is going to serve to educate you on Flat Screen TV stands, which one is going to suit your needs, and how each one differs slightly in function. Right, let’s begin.

Corner TV Stands for Flat Screens

If you have a small apartment, or simply don’t have the room for a longer TV Stand, a corner TV stand flat screens is perfect. They fit snugly into the corner of any room, with no fuss. They also have a tendency to look much neater and cleaner than a squarer TV stand. Corner TV stands come in an array of different materials, such as wood, glass or metal, and usually have a shelf or two beneath where your TV will go, allowing for extra storage for all those handy gadgets you have lying around for just such a purchase (think Playstation!). Corner stands can be cheap TV stands, meaning they are great for someone with a budget, or someone who has simply spent all of their money on the gigantic TV now sitting on the floor in their living room!

Cabinet TV Stands

These are essentially a normal TV stand, with little cupboards built into the stand, allowing you to hide and store your DVDs, meaning your living room is going to look much tidier and cleaner in general. Cabinet TV Stands usually come in some form of wood, such as walnut, beech or oak, making them very versatile when matching them to rooms. If you’re looking for a more modern look when looking for a TV stand, a lightly collered beech Cabinet TV stand would look best.

Standard LCD TV Stands

These are just the normal, more modern TV stands you’ll see when browsing through online stores. They’re are usually square, very simple, and yet remain stylish (think coffee table style tinted glass on giant shiny metal stands). These are for those of us who have a lot more space to work with, in the rooms in our houses/apartments. These TV stands are also perfect for larger TV’s (40” and above), so be sure to have a look around for a great deal. Again, these TV stands come in an array of different shapes, and styles, and you can also find them in several different materials, meaning you can match them to whatever is in your living room effectively. The price of a normal TV stand will be reflected by how big your TV is. If you have a larger TV, you’re going to need a bigger stand right? The bigger the stand, the more money you have to dish out.

TV Stands with mounts

Now we’re beginning to look at the flashier types of TV stands. A TV stand with mount is one of the latest additions to the TV stand family. Essentially, it’s a TV stand with a mount for your TV, so your TV will actually be set above your stand rather than actually be resting on it. They look incredibly cool, and actually free up a ton of space on the rest of your TV stand, for those stacks of DVDs you’ve had lying around, dying for somewhere for them to go, or that brand new Blu-Ray player you now have a space for!

Definitely look into one of these if you have:

  • The space for one
  • A modern looking home
  • A need for your home to look and feel stylish and classy

Now, we come to TV Mounting Brackets. I am not including these in a section of its own, as it does not technically count as a stand. However, I will describe what it does, and why you should think about getting one. So, TV mounting brackets; essentially these are a pair of brackets that are attached to the walls in your living room, or any room. Then, if you look at the back of your LCD TV, you’ll probably find little holes where your TV will attach to the wall. Note that a pair of wall brackets usually tend to come with new LCD TV’s as standard. These are amazing space savers, as they simply attach to your wall, and as such, take up no floor space in the room. They also look incredibly stylish and modern in any room and there’s no need to try and match them to any furniture or style in the room, as once the TV is installed onto them, they’re practically invisible! However, just a few pointers on using TV Mounting Brackets:

  • Get someone who has fitted them before, and who knows what they’re doing to come and install the TV onto the brackets for you. Countless times I have heard of people attempting to install the TV themselves, only to have it come tumbling off of the wall soon after, destroying the TV completely.
  • Make sure you know which direction you’re going to have your sofas and the like facing. This is a big factor to consider when choosing where your wall brackets are going to go. You don’t want your TV installed on one wall, only to find your three piece suite doesn’t actually arrange properly to cater for everyone to watch the TV.

That’s about it for TV stands from us. This should be all the information you really need to get started looking for that perfect TV stand for you! Remember, TV’s in this day and age are almost the heart of the living room. Treat it as such, and invest in a great TV stand that’ll last you for years to come.
